How do rank permissions work?

Once you join an alliance, you can be assigned or promoted to a certain rank. As an R4 or higher member of the alliance, you can initiate an Invasion immediately or schedule it to begin at a later time. Depending on the alliance member's rank, certain actions such as checking the status of alliance members, abandoning a base, constructing alliance buildings, restoring bases, and reviewing alliance applications may be restricted.
